A Once Busy Earth

“A once busy earth” reports on how covid-19 affected the city of Miami and the residents living in its County. From one day to another, on March 17th 2020, Miami shut down its vibrant venues and flashy lifestyle for the first time in a century. Empty streets and highways, closed venues, bars and restaurants, parks, beaches. While transitioning to a physical state of self-isolation and spiritual loneliness, many vulnerable people and communities were left alone and had to find ways to navigate the new situation and to survive. The documentary explores how the Miami community came together to face and finally overcome the greatest public health threat of our times. Through interviews with frontline workers – from doctors and critical care nurses to Miami-Dade first responders – community volunteers, homeless, business owners, the documentary retraces the crucial stages of the battle that Miamians fought against the virus, from the mild spread of the early months of 2020 to the peak of July 2020, when Miami became the epicenter of Covid-19 worldwide.
